#2,418 The Last Invitation.

For 8 years, making heirloom wedding stationery was my career and my life. I thought it would be forever, but life has changed and God opens new doors daily that constantly reveal new ways to use the creative spirit He gave me. This was me at 23, and now at almost 31 years old I’m learning I was limiting myself by only making paper art, when there’s a whole world out there to enjoy and so many ways to create, to be an artist. Today I held an envelope from my last wedding order, maybe ever, that shipped to a […]

#2,342 Business Time + Slowboat.

I wish you could see the group text thread we’ve been sending all day, making fun of the fact that in order to eliminate distractions, we booked a conference room here: To make our official business plan and partnership agreement in a 4-hour meeting with these goobers: They gave us a free pan of hot cinnamon rolls and coffee so it was obviously a 100% success. More to come on that! Then tonight after fresh blackened fish (for Ben) and squash casserole (for me) out on my parents’ back porch for dinner… We went to Slowboat Brewing Co. to see Cary Hudson play. […]

#2,334 Framily Plan.

Tonight we had a summer supper under the stars with Jim, Mal, Josh and Em for more than just our regular Friday night hangout.   Tonight we made a plan for the next chapter in our entrepreneurial adventure that feels like a 100% God-given thing. The kind of thing that presents itself so clearly between 6 old friends with very different skill sets that compliment the others so well, it could only be by His hand. And it’s terrifying. And comforting. I can’t wait to tell y’all all about it as we go along. Stay tuned, friend.

#2,329 Mama’s Day + Cleanup.

We had a huge spread for Mother’s Day lunch at Jim’s parents’ house after church, and I tried my best to restrain myself from the pans of dressing, fried chicken, and cherry pie… with dismal results. It was so delicious, and therefore, worth skipping supper for. I got to share it with my little mama, my tiny twin, our cheering section, who gave me my tender heart and a level head, who taught me how to make a house a home by filling it with our family’s history, who loves us all so well and counts Ben just like he were her own, […]

#2,306 New Direction.

So, that post a couple days ago?    It’s a bittersweet and monumental step, but a necessary one to set aside my wedding stationery work. Even with an amazing team of talented people, so many duties still fall on me and if I can’t give it my full attention, I would rather take a break from it. I’m so excited to give my whole heart and head to Scotsman Co., Dry Goods and Home Town for 2016 and maybe I’ll circle back to my old love in 2017. I can do this, right? Will y’all say a little tiny prayer […]

#2,304 Revelation.

I woke up this morning feeling stressed and burdened by a hill I’ve been climbing for a long while now and I realized today after an incredible conversation with my dear friend Megan… I don’t have to keep climbing. I don’t have to keep picking weeds to try and make a bouquet when my garden has roses sprouting up. I can change the direction whenever I want to. I can tell you it pertains to owning and operating multiple businesses at the same time with my heart being divided by the needs of them all and I can tell you that tonight I’m going to bed […]

#2,277 Handling the Handbook 2.

Last year I spent 6 months writing a handbook that explained every process involved in our invitation business and I was so relieved and so proud when I clicked ‘export’ on that final working file… Then a year passed and so much has changed that it became urgent to update and revise it all since we’ll be handing things off to our team again when we start filming the show… And today after several weeks of plugging away at it, it’s finished! Again! While I worked, I watched It’s Complicated and daydreamed about the upcoming California trip.   I’m so excited […]

#2,268 Tupelo + Dinner.

We had another meeting this morning in Tupelo, the furniture-making Mecca of Mississippi, where we got to tour a 250,000 square foot warehouse that was packed to the rafters with every kind of old, beautiful reclaimed wood Ben’s heart could desire.   At this meeting, Ben’s dreams for Scotsman Co. became a reality and he was like a little boy in total wonder. It made my heart feel so full to see him there today, the way the wheels have been turning for his business, then he got an email that his interview for American Workshop was posted today… And I […]

#2,261 Processing the Processes.

I am fried. I am whooped.   When you realize how quickly your new full time (impossibly amazing and unexpected) job is looming on the horizon, as in making a TV show, as in just a couple months from now, the urgency to create streamlined processes for every aspect of your 3 existing businesses becomes… Overwhelming. And, well, urgent. But today, despite my art brain, I feel like I started making real progress in the way of getting all these weird, idiosyncratic “processes” of mine worked out and standardized so that the good folks we will trust and hire can […]

#2,227 Organizing Chaos.

I took way too long to get to work today. I tend to do that when I feel overwhelmed and unsure of where to begin. So we went to Walmart and Lowe’s and took our sweet time getting to the shop. This is why I was stalling. How. Can. We. EVER get this organized and functioning better? This is some of our shop inventory. Yikes. Fortunately, one of my best Lucky Luxe interns came to the rescue and helped straighten it all out. I love you, Alexis! And by closing time, we had it all figured out. I get by with […]
