#2,078 30 Years.

I’m 30 years old today. Thanks to Ben and his planned month of daily celebrations and distractions, I feel excited to be alive and so thankful for the life and people and opportunities God has put in our journey who make the world feel smaller and make getting older a privilege. This morning, I woke up in a beach house beside the water with sunshine streaming all around, took a convertible ride down the beach and picked up breakfast with Ben, Lindsey and Omar before catching the Manhattan ferry, then catching a plane back home, then had dinner with my […]

#2,077 Jersey Shore.

The Jersey Shore is not what I thought. MTV should be ashamed (I mean, for way more than one reason, but this is the reason right now). New Jersey looked every bit like a New England postcard today, beginning to end. We slept in for the first time in a very long time and spent the day doing absolutely nothing. When we woke up we made a quick trip to the pharmacy in this most incredibly quaint seaside town… And found Tony Soprano’s (almost) beach house, Whitecaps, in Sea Bright. These towns all look the way I’ve envisioned coastal New […]

#2,076 NYC to Monmouth Beach.

We started off the day by meeting for breakfast at The Smith with Jackie Greaney, a recent instagram friend whom I’ve admired for a long time because of her incredible photos of the coastal northeast and her collaboration with L.L. Bean. We hit it off so quickly and easily, and I hope when she finally makes the trip down south to visit our mutual New Orleans friends from The Grove Street Press she’ll swing through Laurel for tiny porch hang. And then, we spent an entire gloriously unscheduled day walking the entire city. I’m in so much pain right now […]

#2,075 New York For the Day.

Since we only had one full day to spend in the city before we head on to our next stop tomorrow, we were moving fast from sun up to way past sun down. First things first: English muffins at Sarabeth’s where we had a celebrity sighting. Jessica Chastain from The Help and Zero Dark Thirty was a couple tables away. After breakfast, we took a long walk to the upper west side through Central Park. The weather was incredible! I never broke a sweat! There were two places from You’ve Got Mail that I didn’t see last time, so I […]

#2,074 One Last 20s Trip.

We woke up like any other Wednesday and took our walk. We took care of some things around the shop. We packed our bags… And got on a plane. Did my usual deathly fear of flying clinginess: Saw a pretty sunset from an airplane: And at 11 pm, I found myself in New York City. We got a midnight snack at Crif Dogs and now, I’m ready to close my heavy eyes. We’ve got so much to see and do tomorrow! P.S. We got our first shipment of Lucky Luxe Sweet Olive candles yesterday… And so many of our sweet […]

#2,071 Sewing Project.

I won’t pretend for a minute that I sewed anything… Rather, my sweet mama in law who made this fun birthday cake for our trip north to visit them: Helped me by making a big insert of snap-in pockets to hold my bath stuff for my canvas overnight bag: So I’m ready for our BIG trip this week! Stay tuned! P.S. Ben hammered in the brass snaps. Good job, duder.

#2,066 Wait Until + Evening Walk.

Today I got a letter in the mail from Lisa, who knows all about my anxieties about aging. Honestly, Ben’s elaborate month-long birthday plan is 100% working and instead of dreading August 30, I feel like I’ve waded into it already and I feel excited about life every morning I get to wake up. Lisa’s words were the chorus to his surprises and a balm for me: Now, isn’t that the truth? Let’s not be the “wait until” people, y’all. And the sky on tonight’s walk stopped me in my tracks. No filter here. Just late summer magic. Also, just […]

#2,065 Feelin’ Fallish + Spontaneity.

Can you tell I was feelin’ it today? In other news, today we got plane tickets for a (crazy) spontaneous trip that wasn’t in the original birthday book plan thanks to a generous friend and an adventurous husband. I’m going way outside my comfort zone on this one all in the name of turning 30. Haven’t you heard? It’s how to make time slow down and live longer! Stay tuned!

#2,062 Waco with Chip.

This morning we woke up and headed for the last stop on our great Texas road trip in Waco to see Chip, Joanna and Clint. We agreed it would be weird for us to have come so far to Austin and be so close without coming to visit, and I’m only a spontaneous and carefree 29 year-old for a few more days, so why not?   We braved the awful traffic leaving Austin headed north for an hour and soon were pulling in to the neighborhood  where they were shooting a reveal day for Fixer Upper season 3. We immediately found one of the producers we met […]

#2,061 Texas Forever + Damien Rice.

Well guys, if you’re not a fan of the Friday Night Lights TV series (not the movie), or Damien Rice, you can go ahead and check out on today’s blog… Because we were pretty major teenyboppers for both those things today. We left Houston later than planned after a longish stop at a post office to mail a sample to a client (self-employment vacation), but by the afternoon we were finally making our way into Austin. Here’s the thing. All I really know about Austin besides “keep it weird” is that it was also used as the setting for the […]
