#2,386 Sweet Celebrations.

The French bakery we love in Hattiesburg is closing. For years, Big has always made early morning trips to surprise me with almond croissants when I woke up on special occasions. Turning a year older, our anniversary. Today we had a morning meeting in Hattiesburg and stopped by for one last croissant. I bought the ones they had left for my freezer. This is what celebrating tastes like. Oddly enough, we celebrate my parents’ anniversaries and daddy’s birthday with his favorite dessert of all: cherry cheesecake. I called in an order of mini size ones from Sweet Somethings, our favorite […]

#2,385 Support System.

We worked so hard this week, I can barely hold my eyes open to write this sentence. Today I’m grateful for our friends at the shops all over Laurel who have opened their doors and their inventories to our little production–places like Lott Furniture where Mal and I got to take a little adventure this afternoon. I’m also thankful for the silly boys I spend my days with at work and floor fans that feel good when they poof out your shirt on a really hot day. And mamas who hem your new dress at 8 pm on a Thursday. […]

#2,384 Storm Watch.

We were rushing to wrap filming tonight at 7:00 when our phones lit up with warnings a severe storm was 15 minutes away. Cameras that cost more than some houses in Laurel aren’t waterproof so it’s serious business when you’ve got one chance to get the scene. As soon as we finished, we hopped in the car and drove home to beat the rain and Ben waited for it on the porch, relishing the cool breeze that came first. We sat on the swing when it started to pour down and I laid my head on his big heavy chest, […]

#2,383 DIY Day.

Mallorie and I got together at 8:00 this morning to start the first DIY projects of season 2, and neither rain nor mosquitoes could stop us. I’m thankful that our framily gets to be such an integral part of all the work we do. How lucky are we to have such talented friends?

#2,382 Reward.

It was another very long house shopping day of filming that had me feeling like a zombie when we wrapped at 6 pm… And I feel like after standing on my feet for 10 hours I earned this one simple thing. A grilled cheese by Ben on sourdough: And it was absolutely, positively, greasy, crispy, gooey, cheddar-y, gouda-y, buttery perfection. I had grapes on the side, so, healthy.

#2,381 Sunday Doins.

When we were filming season one, it became our routine to spend Sunday afternoons taking care of the things we have to do but don’t have time for during the week. When you wake up at 5:30 am, go to the gym, film till 6:00, then cook and eat supper and get in bed by 10, it doesn’t leave time for the laundry, dishes and cleaning. This morning I took care of another house portrait before church:  Then we ran to the grocery store after church (in matching outfits no less): We did the dishes and laundry and put it […]

#2,381 Day Trip.

Mama, Ben and I took a little day trip down to Mobile again to exchange the antique European dressers we bought for the bathroom renovation and found ourselves at Wentzell’s again for lunch. Ben was our very happy date because it’s national oyster day and he got 2 dozen oysters all to himself. Because we were more interested in shrimp po-boys. The original dressers we bought last month were gorgeous, but as it turns out, not the right size for the new bathroom. As luck would have it, we found two perfect replacements. Once they get marble tops and Ben […]

#2,380 Date Night.

We had to run an errand in Hattiesburg after wrapping for the day which of course landed us at Tabella, our favorite, for a date night. We shared salads and meatballs, talking about the first week of filming (so tired) and how it felt to be back in the swing of things (like we never stopped). Earlier this week, we were talking about Darling magazine with Lindsay, about how cool their mission is to make content for women that’s uplifting and encouraging. And Ben told her his thoughts on feminism I suppose you could call it: "I guess because I […]

#2,379 Goodbye Rob.

Tonight we said goodbye to Rob at a pool party with the whole Mercantile team. Most of our part time folks go back to college in the next few days, which means it’s time to say goodbye as Rob heads on to graduate school at Clemson.  It’s going to leave a big hole in our operations without his leadership, but I’m praying tonight that he finds the future he’s been dreaming of with graduate school. If any of you are teachers or ministers, I know that you can relate to how we feel watching one of our former youth kids […]

#2,378 Goal Meeting.

Today was so busy with filming and a Mercantile meeting, I somehow managed not to snap a single photo. How did I do that? But the good news is typically a day like that means something productive happened–in this case, a meeting tonight with Jim, Mal, Josh, and Em rendered plans for some huge goals in 2018 that feel so right for this season, I can’t help but write it down here. In my experience, when I wrote down the biggest dreams of my heart here for the world to see, we prayed about it and listened for “the next […]
