#2,496 Pancake Day 2017.

If you order a copy of Good Grit here you can read all about Pancake Day: Laurel’s sweetest annual tradition that we’ve all been doing for decades. Everyone you’ve ever known your entire life comes to the old YWCO and gets in line together to have all you can eat pancakes and sausage before the Christmas parade starts. Every year, the photos are the same, we all just look a little older and wiser. This is how Christmas begins in our hometown. This year was an especially good one, since we are celebrating the one year anniversary of opening the Laurel Mercantile Co. This […]

#2,495 December First.

And just like that, it’s December already. Somehow.  This year flew past faster than any year has before. Our last childless year. Tomorrow, Pancake Day, will be the one year anniversary of our opening the Laurel Mercantile. It’s been a year filled with so much surprise and hard work and magic.  I wonder what magic we will find when we become parents next month.

#2,494 Tree Lighting.

I’m so glad we finished work in time to make it to the town Christmas tree lighting. We barely made it in time! And this time next year, Helen will go with us. How crazy is that?!

#2,493 Beginning of the End.

Today was the first of the last reveals! And I wore boots with heels! And this is the greatest thing I’ve ever experienced: Truly, a foot rub has never felt so glorious. We’ve almost got season 2 licked!

#2,492 Appreciating the Quiet.

We’re getting close to the end of filming and while the days are still a bit long, I’m finding more quiet moments as the saws are done and it’s now the quiet work of painting and cleaning that’s left on each of the houses. Tonight when we wrapped I couldn’t wait to get home and into the bathtub then into my pajamas. All I wanted for supper were two Eggo waffles with real butter and Blackburn’s syrup, while Ben had picked a steak up from the butcher just for him. And I’m soaking up every quiet moment before our lives […]

#2,491 Cyber Monday.

Time is flying. Somehow, it’s been two years since Ben and I launched our own little online shop that was the beginning of Laurel Mercantile.  Today, our amazing team got 70 of the 200+ orders we’ve received shipped, and they’ll be working steadily for the next couple days to make sure y’all get your goodies right away.  I’m so overwhelmed with love and thanksgiving for you who have supported our little American-made dream. If you’re reading this before midnight on Monday, you’ve still got time to shop our specials!

#2,491 Our Last Solo Decorating.

It’s a rule: if we want something to get done it has to be on our calendar. Christmas decorating was no exception and somehow, with everything we’ve got going on, our house is already clean and decorated for Christmas before December even arrives. I think two years ago we barely got a tree up before December 24.  But this morning, we did a little before church: And got some garland at the store after church: And by supper, it was all finished. A couple years ago we found a little cardboard house ornament like mama’s! I spent the day feeling […]

#2,490 Home Again.

We made it back home just in time to pick out our Christmas tree at the Mercantile. We didn’t have the energy to actually decorate it tonight, but there’s always tomorrow! For now, there is a Chinese carry out and Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Which I have somehow never seen until tonight. P.S. We are one gallon of milk away from the last shoot day of season 2. I really kind of want to cry.

#2,489 Time Traveling at the Napiers.

Today we had to walk Jesse’s girlfriend, Lauren: Through all the greatest hits of awkward Napier family photos. But also the most adorable, in which I melted at the thought of Helen hopefully looking exactly like Ben, which would be the greatest thing ever, all chubby smiley cheeks and blonde curls: But also, how hunky did that baby grow up to be?! And now, we will have burgers hot off the grill while the blue Christmas lights twinkle in the background.

#2,488 Thanksgiving.

It was amazing to see most of our family, to eat and laugh and watch Rudy like we always used to, to watch the Egg Bowl and listen to Walker’s conversations with Helen as he tried to show her his new Star Wars watch through my belly. Family is God’s greatest gift. Thankful doesn’t cover it for how I feel about them. Ben’s people: And my people: They’re all my favorite people.  Happy Thanksgiving, y’all.
