#2,372 Keep It Between the Lines.

I know I’ve already written about the new woodshop once this week, it’s just that it’s been all consuming between getting it set up and finished and our bathroom renovation that’s just in the ugly framing phase and doing tons of paintings for the show (that I can’t show you but I wish I could). This is one of the only things I can write about in our life right now and it’s so cool to see how happy it makes Ben to have a woodshop again after months of being in a half-functioning one during the big move. Doesn’t […]

#2,371 Turning.

Ben finally got the fancy new lathe unpacked at the woodshop which means I’m going to have pretty new wooden lamps soon. You know, after he makes table legs. And rolling pins.

#2,370 Season 2 Kick Off No. 1.

The first of two parties happened tonight kicking off season two of Home Town! Just like we have for the last two years, we gathered together at my parents’ house on the back porch for a party. As always, daddy made his famous fried fish which is a real delicacy for a lot of the folks on the team who are from outside the south. We feel so lucky to have a production company full of people who know our heart and our vision and found all the right people to make it real.

#2,369 Support.

We have been absolutely flooded with kind words from folks who saw my Instagram post last week about why Ben stays within arm’s reach on the show… I got an email today from a viewer who hates the way @scotsman.co touches me so much on the show. It makes her sick because it reminds her of men who treat women like objects, which made me hurt for her. The truth of it is, being an extreme introvert complicates my job and I suspect there are more of you out there like me. Being on TV is unnerving for me, and […]

#2,368 Piddling.

Today’s piddling was so productive, it felt like more than piddling. We finally replaced the flimsy rolling clothes racks that break and turn over in the attic of our studio… With poles Ben mounted into the ceiling: We are gonna be SO ORGANIZED soon! Then we went over to the woodshop so I could paint the sign with Jesse while Ben organized his wood piles. I’m so excited for y’all to see the woodshop when it’s finished!

#2,367 Fireside.

For maybe the first time this summer, a breeze cooled the air down to 75° and Jim lit the firepit and we gathered around with the Rories and Hickners who are in town for the weekend. When the heat feels so unbearable during the day, nights like this give us the second wind to keep going.

#2,366 Friends in Town.

Josh and Rebecca are down from Memphis for the weekend and so are our friends Joey and Sarah from D.C., so we all got together at Jim and Mallorie’s to catch up on life since we last saw each other. Their house is big enough for the guys to have their own room while we were in their formal living room, so we had to send messages to the other group via our resident superhero, Lucy.

#2,365 Sully’s.

Emily suggested that for tonight’s dinner we try a place in Hattiesburg they’ve been hearing about but none of us have ever been to. Listen, I had my doubts about this strip mall looking building behind a gas station outside of town. I really did. But inside it was moody and dark, with huge framed photos of 1920s boxing in ornate gold frames, and I decided they had style and so maybe the radio ads weren’t lying. Maybe it is the best steak in town. I love shrimp and grits so I ordered that without any expectations. And it was […]

#2,364 Christmas in July.

It was a weird thing to do on the hottest day of the year, but when you’re guest editing the Christmas issue of a magazine, the photos have to happen at some point in advance. I can’t wait for you to see the magic of it in the issue of Good Grit magazine this November!

#2,363 Big Bath + Denim Girls.

Today we officially deleted the hallway door to our bathroom, but before they sheetrocked it up, I got one last peak and saw just how roomy it will be with the new addition. The pretty is about to start coming in! Also, the Rasberry women were representing the denim industry at tonight’s Main Street meeting:
