#2,482 Holiday Special.

We spent the day with our director Jim from season 1 putting together the super fun Home Town holiday special that’s coming in a few weeks! I’ll keep y’all posted on air times as soon as we know. Now I hope we will see you at The Market Beautiful tomorrow (today, if you’re reading on Saturday) when we speak at noon and have a meet and greet inside the Mercantile from 2-3 pm.

#2,481 Dinner with the Market Folks.

Tomorrow (today, if you’re reading this on Friday morning) the Market Beautiful kicks off again in Laurel for their vintage fair down by the Mercantile on Front and Oak Streets for the weekend. Saturday Ben and I will be speaking and hanging out at our shop and I hope we get to meet some of y’all there. Just like before, they invited us over to their Airbnb for dinner tonight with their friend Andrew making a four-star Japanese meal in the kitchen, and just like before, we stayed way too late and ate way too much. In June it was […]

#2,480 Letters From Lisa.

My friend Lisa lives in Indiana. We met because of this journal, right here, many years ago. Before TV and all that craziness. We became dear friends via snail mail letters as she recovered from cancer and she has been a prayer warrior for us every step of this wild journey we’ve been on. She scribbles notes on her lunch break that are Anne Lamott-Ernest Hemingway-Elizabeth Berg level brilliant. She throws more good writing in the trash than I have written here over these 8 years.  Today my letter from Lisa was exactly the thing my heart needed to hear […]

#2,479 Teamwork.

Home Town season 2 would be impossible without these folks right here: Georgia and Sarah spent their morning down on the floor prepping a project for me to do on camera since bending down is getting harder and harder with my growing belly. They never complain, they only laugh and tell stories that make me laugh with them. Tim, our beloved camera man gives everyone a big hug first thing every morning and last thing when we wrap, always asking how I’m feeling. Patrick, our director, makes up crazy characters and voices that make me laugh when I’m so tired […]

#2,478 Cotton.

Cotton is the most interesting flower, I think. It’s all I wear, which I can’t say about any other flowers, it’s textural and odd looking and when you see it filling a vast expanse of field like the one Ben stumbled upon today, it kind of takes your breath away. Also, shout out to autumn for making long days on set feel like a dream.

#2,477 Helen’s First Shower.

Tonight we had a little baby shower with just our closest friends and my heart is completely overflowing with love for this support system God saw fit to give Ben and I. Helen is already so loved and she hasn’t even taken her first breath. She’ll be here soon!

#2,476 Birthday Day + Mimmo’s.

Today was magical, beginning to end.  I’m so tired from having fun from sun up to sun down whilst growing a baby girl, so I will let the pictures tell you the story of the day we went to Sam’s 3rd birthday party at Josh and Em’s when it was brisk and smelled like logs on the fire : Then Walker’s Star Wars 4th birthday party at my brother’s house where mama and I happened to be accidental twins (and I will NOT stop wearing this perfect comfy sweater, like, every day): Then we dropped by the store and it […]

#2,475 Pearl’s.

Our friend Josh (Ben’s college roommate and 1/3rd partner in the Mercantile whom y’all have gotten to know on Home Town) has invested so much of himself in downtown Laurel and today we got to enjoy the fruits of it. I can’t believe we have a place like The Pearl Diner for lunch with the best mac and cheese on the planet! And I can’t believe there is a toy store and a men’s store right across the street from us while we eat. Tomorrow, we’ll have another  celebration eating at the next new eatery in town. What a time […]

#2,474 Curls.

The weather has cooled off so much, but the humidity has been sticking around which isn’t conducive to my baby fine hair if I try to wear it straight. I went back to my Tigi curl creme and it’s been smooth (curly) sailing.  With the shape of my body changing so much, it feels good to have hair days once in a while that make me feel like myself.

#2,473 Fall Day.

The sun never shined today, but the clouds felt like a hug and the cold breezes whispered around the corners of our house and the bright golden ginkgo leaves illuminated my walk before work. So of course we had to have breakfast for supper!
