#838 Big Lots.

Big Lots made my week today.

I’ve been dreaming of filling up my glass cabinets with all-white dinnerware, and the diner whites and Manhattan Blue Plate patterns from Fishs Eddy are exactly what I had in mind. Ben and I went there on our last trip to New York and I fell in love with their simple, vintage-style plates and bowls. To me, less is more and if you break one it shouldn’t be any big deal to buy more. At around $2.50 per piece, the price was right, even though shipping might be a little high.

But then we went to Big Lots. Where they had a rack of mix and match heavyweight diner whites as well as a pattern that reminded me of the Blue Plate design I’m so in love with. It all reminds me of old-fashioned farmhouse type dinnerware, durable and timeless. Except these dishes were even less than Fishs Eddy. And shipping’s free when the car is parked outside.

So then I walked to the next aisle in search of picture frames. I’ve got big plans to create a family history room in the entryway of the house. Something that will be sort of like this:

And I found all the frames I needed in different types of wood finishes at around $3-5 each. And I was pleased as punch.

We walked out of there with 10 place settings of dinnerware and mugs and 20 picture frames for $149. The dinnerware from Fishs Eddy alone was going to cost more than that.

And so I went home and washed my new dishes and stocked the cabinets. It changes everything.

And I figured out which pictures went with which frames. And now I just need Ben’s mama to help me get some of their family. I can’t wait to see it all come together!

  1. I came across your blog while searching for bowls just like Fishs Eddy's Diner whites! These are my dream bowls and look like the perfect size! Do you know if Big Lots still carries them? I will have to make a trip there very soon! And gorgeous kitchen, by the way 🙂

  2. Hey Desiree! I know our Big Lots still has those dishes, so maybe so! You really need to check it out. We've loved ours.
