#2,458 Two Fish.

Wednesday night church came back in session from the summer break 3 weeks ago, but we weren’t able to come until tonight. It felt SO GOOD to be back in our small group with those familiar faces and a couple new ones too to learn about what the miracle of Jesus feeding 5,000 people with a little boy’s lunch of 2 fish means for us. It was the best Bible study I’ve been part of in a long while, and the phrase that sticks with me and hasn’t left my thoughts is this: when we give God the little bit we have and put it in His hands (faith, trust, courage, our financial worries), He will do infinitely more with it than we could have ever done alone. It’s the same with tithing 10% of everything we earn, which Mark Batterson says best: “Tithing isn’t a money issue. It’s a trust issue. Tithing = Trusting. And when you begin to tithe you’ll discover that God can do more with 90% than you can do with 100%.”

That was a hard lesson for me to learn when we were young and newlywed with no money and I would reluctantly give that 10% up trusting (or at least trying to trust) that God would take care of us.

He’s never let us down. I’m so thankful for Him.

P.S.

My phone was dead and I didn’t take a single picture at small group. But there’s this magic moment when I get out of the bubble bath every night, make my cereal supper and blissfully curl up under my favorite cable knit blanket to watch 30 Rock. This is the moment I daydream about all day when I’m on my feet, hot and losing steam on a construction site.
