#2,235 Cake + Stationery + Walker.

This morning while we were making the coffee and eating cereal, the doorbell rang. We looked at each other and our tangled bed hair and bath robes and decided Ben had to get it. A few minutes later he returned to the kitchen with a fresh blueberry cream cheese king cake in hand, a gift from the family who are opening the new bakery this spring. I couldn’t help myself!

Delicious, y’all. Delicious.

I got to the studio and went to work updating the little portrait on Ben’s personal stationery since it never did capture his brown hair/ginger beard combo. I’m finding myself looking for reasons to paint more and more lately. I wish I had more time to practice.

Soon, I heard clumsy little feet and a gentle voice in the stairs before John Walker’s sweet voice called out for me as mama opened the door: “Ahnnie?”

It makes my heart feel full to bursting when he calls my name, Annie (Aunt E), and it made my morning to go to lunch with he, mama and Ben at Cafe La Fleur. He knows how to smile for a picture now! He loves crackers! He answers questions! He’s not a baby anymore. This is a precious boy.

Ben carried him on his shoulders on the walk back to the shop, and to see Walker and Uncle Big together just nearly kills me. He pulls at Ben’s beard with his little fingers, and tells us, “Big has boo eyes. Like Walker.”

Our sweet little one. It’s good to be his Annie.

  1. First ~ so jealous that you are getting a bakery! Our little town had one and then it closed. So sad! And – that cake!
Second ~ how absolutely adorable is Walker. What a precious little guy!
Third ~ you have some mad talent, girl!

    Happy Friday!

  2. What a cute little guy! May I ask what kind/brand of paints you’re using in the photo? I’m housebound for the next few weeks (thanks to a nasty run-in with black ice resulting in a broken foot) and would like to spend my down time getting in some painting time. Loved your HGTV show and can’t wait to see more!

    • Hey Monica! I’m so sorry you’re down for the count. I hope you’re not in too much pain! This is just a cheap set I got at the art supply store. It was like $9 from Michael’s. I’m awaiting my fancy new 30-color Sakura Koi set coming from Japan!

  3. He is adorable! How fun for your mom to have him on Fridays!

That cake looks amazing and HUGE! Enjoy!

    • He is the funnest! He accidentally touched the cake walking into the restaurant because they keep it on a display table so mama “had” to buy it… She said she would take it home and eat it later… But there wasn’t a crumb left when we got up from the table. Ha!
