#2,228 Morning Friends + First.

A few times every week I go spend some of my morning visiting Mammaw at her nursing center. In the front lobby is the welcome wagon, a group of seniors who treat this lobby like their clubhouse, hanging out, laughing, playing board games. I was so happy to see my friends there this morning. There is Mr. Kitchens who is not a resident but comes before the sun rises to spend the day holding his wife’s hand until it’s time for bed, Mr. Homer who sweetly picks on me about my ripped jeans, Mrs. Faye, holding court visiting with her friends, and so many others who light up with each person who walks through the door. It’s a special ritual in my week, seeing these good people. I hope I can do it for a long while yet.

Then tonight at the Chinese buffet (twice this week, I KNOW), a crazy crazy thing happened. A girl named Summer asked us for our autographs on a crumpled up store receipt then asked for a picture! This has definitely never happened before. Is this real life?

I hope you don’t have to return anything on that receipt, Summer!

  1. What a beautiful morning ritual! And the Welcome Wagon ~ adorable! Love that you had your first autograph signing – betting it’s not your last!

  2. Just so there isn’t any question about it – I live in Oklahoma, but if I ever run into you two, I will totally be asking you guys for the same thing, haha! I recorded your show and watched it twice back to back. I’m pretty sure you have a HUGE fan base! 🙂 HGTV better make this a series! I loved it!

    • Oh my goodness—you’re killing me! We are NOBODIES, and I was afraid to tell her! Ha Thank you so much for watching the show, Kim!

  3. I too, am amazed by Mr. Kitchen’s devotion to his wife at CCNH. My dad is up and about there, he is “Mr. Berry”. He has dementia and is unable to live alone, but he loves CC and I love the way they care for him.
Wishing you and Ben good luck with Home Town. You did an amazing job with the show.
