#2,223 Thank You.

I can’t make the right words. They don’t make strong enough words for this kind of gratitude.

Thank you Country Living (but no, we could never ever ever replace Chip and Jo).

Thank you House Beautiful.

Thank you, Joanna.

Thank you every single one of you who shared this labor of love with your friends and family and college roommates from years ago. No matter what anyone else writes or says about Home Town, the truth is it’s been a gift that we never asked for and never deserved and that feels a lot like God’s grace, doesn’t it? It takes so many people to make change happen and we’ve only been the tiniest cogs in this big machine who somehow get to be the faces and mouthpieces for it now and take the hits for it when people are unhappy. I’m not counting my chickens before they hatch and expecting a series, I’m just so grateful to have been given the chance to say something new about Mississippi in this one hour and about this town that bored me as a teenager, that made me homesick in college, that stole my heart and brought me back when Ben and I became a family.

Nothing will be written about this show that means more to me than what our friend and business mentor, Micah Whitson of Old Try, has written. I cried when I read his words and felt the grace about it, and felt utterly thankful.

I’m thankful for you, reader. I’m thankful for the chance to represent y’all and I hope we’ll make you proud.

See you tomorrow, friends.

  1. Thanks for taking a stand for our God, our great state, small town living, old homes, family, church, simple living and all of the other ideals we should hold nearest and dearest, Erin! Through your blog you’ve told a meaningful story that will pull at the heartstrings of anyone who loves their hometown or the idea of finding an adopted hometown where they can focus on the most important things in life (that actually aren’t things at all!). I’m sure your show will represent the very best aspects of your blog and be a huge success!

  2. Congratulations Erin and Ben! I’m looking forward to watching your show this morning. I can’t wait to see it. The snow is falling here in Salt Lake City, Utah so that makes for a good day to snuggle in and watch YOUR show….yipppeeeee

  3. I’ve been following you for several years now. I’m an early, early morning person! I get up, make my coffee, start a fire and look forward to knowing your daily post will always be there to greet me first thing.
I could not be happier for you and Ben- you deserve all of this and so much more. Truth be told… I am older than your Mom- but still feel inspired and get so much out of your posts.
Now counting the hours until your pilot, then later today a little football and then Downton Abbey- a perfect day, starting with you, Ben and HGTV!

  4. Excited for y’all! It has been fun to see all of this unfold for you and Ben, as I have been reading your blog for a few years now. Can’t wait to watch the show, and I will pray for God’s care over you however He decides to use this platform through you guys. Blessings!

  5. Good luck! I’m ready and have my dvr set. ? Can’t wait! I just know it’s gonna be great! I’ll be watching here in Iowa along with everyone else out there rooting for you!

  6. Erin and Ben, I just want to thank you for sharing your love of home, family, friends, and your HomeTown. I just adore you and Ben. I live here on the coast in Mississippi and have been following your daily journal for several months.
Loved loved the show! Wishing you both the very best and a very bright future!

  7. Hi Erin! I found your blog close to a year ago when I came across a photograph of your charming Craftsman home. From that moment on, I was hooked on the love the two of you share for Laurel.
I watched “Home Town” this morning with a tremendous sense of pride knowing that y’all were representing my home state with such love, grace, and joy. I hope and pray that you and Ben can continue on your new-found journey with HGTV. It is really a fresh approach to house hunting and rehab.
From one Mississippi gal to another, thank you for showing people that MS is a state worth getting to know again and again! With much love from Memphis!

  8. Wow!! I just watched your show. It was so exciting to see you both on TV after I have been following your blog for the past three years. You and Ben both make such a natural and fun fit for TV. I thought that the house was so beautiful and charming in the end. I admire how you and Ben can come up with affordable solutions to make something instead of buying. I hope to see more of your show in the future. Enjoy every minute of this exciting adventure in your lives!

  9. Just watched the show and Congratulations. Y’all are as cute on the show as you are in your Journal. Hope good things keep happening. Glad you grew up somewhere that has become more special to you and you can give back! Blessings!

  10. Watched the show this morning and can’t wait to watch it again (I recorded it)!
You two are adorable and naturals in front of the camera. I loved the show and that house-OMG! I want to move in! This show HAS to become a series. I hope the folks at HGTV know that. You must be on cloud nine!

  11. Erin and Ben – you guys knocked it out of the park today! Regardless if HGTV picks up your show or not (although I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t) you should be so proud of what you have done and of the ambassadors that you have become for Laurel, MS. You deserve that key to the city! You have opened the eyes to small town living in the South and what makes it so special. God Bless You as you continue on your journey! I am so blessed to call you my friend 🙂

  12. Loved the show!! Budget was reasonable and some of the solutions to issues were so great! That floor upstairs was genius! You were both adorably playful without taking away from the project!!! Hope to see more of Jim, Mal and Lucy too since we feel they are a part of you guys!! We will all be watching from Ohio!

  13. Oh my own Kathleen Kelly…… I am SO excited for the possibilities. I have it DVR’d and can’t wait to watch. I checked in on your Insta page for any updates this morning on my way to church and the update was your picture of church. Oh can I get an amen? I’d like to think that if we were in the same hometown, we could get coffee…..I think about these kinds of things because this life is made for dreaming. So may your coffee be hot, your Sunday rich, and your home full. Proud of ya.

  14. Erin
I called my family members in MS who watched the show and they LOVED it!
    They recorded it for me.
I can’t wait to see it.
Thanks for reintroducing the world to our great state.
