#1,722 Lunch with Lindsay.

When Ben’s little brother, Jesse, finished his time as student body president at Jones in the spring, this super ambitious go-getter girl, Lindsay, was elected. She’s friends with some of our youth who’ve graduated in the last couple years, she’s always around downtown, posting cool things on instagram or facebook, promoting the things she loves—Jones, local businesses, whatever. I see so much of myself in her, and have been feeling like we should get together for lunch soon since she’s headed to Ole Miss next year and majoring in marketing/design/communication. So today, we did just that.

And I think she’s about 10 years older than what her driver’s license says. We totally hit it off, talking about what inspires us and where she’s headed with her career (she thinks—like we all did at 19, right?) and I was thankful to have made it to this season of my life. She talked about feeling uncertain about where to go and what to do from here, and I can remember that time like it just happened. Like it was last year. I met Ben when I was 19. I was headed to Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. I was going to be a book jacket designer or a magazine editor. He was going to be a lawyer. And then life happens just the way God plans it.

I don’t know what her life will look like in 10 years, but I can bet it’s going to be creative and full of doing—not just dreaming. And that’s pretty inspiring, even to a 29 year old. I’m thankful that I had the opportunity to be a mentor for her today. I know Lisa will understand the simple pleasure of this.

In other news, the new labels for our stationery boxes came in from the printer today!
