#1,615 The Canadians.

For the second time in my life, I’ve got Canadian friends in town! Amanda and I have been blog friends since she ran across our house on Hooked on Houses, and we’ve been following each other on instagram ever since, too. And eventually she and Mal and Dawn all began following each other there, and it feels like we’ve got this little community of friends even though she’s never met our crew down here in Mississippi. Until today! She and Garrett were married last weekend and for their honeymoon are taking a road trip from Canada, to Nashville, to Laurel (!), to New Orleans, to Destin, to St. Augustine, to Savannah and then Charleston before making the trek back home. Can you imagine how road weary they’ll be? But what an adventure! They made it into Laurel this evening and are spending tonight right next door at the bed and breakfast. I never dreamed how convenient our location would be with visitors from out of town.

We had spaghetti and meatballs for dinner with watermelon and Louisiana strawberries for dessert, then exchanged some gifts. Mallorie gave them a vintage map of Canada she found tucked away in a drawer in their house—and they showed us exactly where home is.

I found vintage copies of Bell’s Best and the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art guild cookbook at the antique mall and knew I had to give them to my friend, the honorary Southerner. Along with my favorite—a Park Hill sweet tea candle.

I’m excited to show them around in the daylight tomorrow! Stay tuned for another Laurel field trip day!

  1. I can't decide either on the garage lights because both are beautiful. I do think I would have stayed in Laurel if I had known that gorgeous Homewood house was an option! I am happy, though, for your friends who will make it their own and I can't wait to see the transformation. If the former owners need an estate sale person, I know JUST the girl!
