#148 Wakulla, Micanopy & St. Augustine.

I can’t explain to you what a dream today has been. We woke up (from a great night’s sleep. I can’t believe it!) and had THE GREATEST breakfast of griddlecakes and all the good breakfast fixings on the terrace of the Wakulla Springs Lodge. Through the windows we saw the fog burning away, the gorgeous springs with these exotic birds flying from the trees, and 1960s do-wop was playing softly in the background as just the two of us sat all alone in this lavish ballroom having breakfast. It felt just like we were at the resort from Dirty Dancing (forget the fact that was set in the mountains)…

After the boat tour of the springs (there are mammoth bones in the basin of the spring!) where we saw about a million alligators, HUGE pointy fish, and the ‘jungle’ where they filmed the original Tarzan movies, I was already feeling a little like I was in a spooky dream world. I don’t know how else to explain it! It’s like Jurassic Park meets Spain. You have to go.

After Wakulla, we headed east to Micanopy, where they filmed Doc Hollywood. We saw the garage where Michael J. Fox’s car gets fixed up:
Then we went for a bike ride:

Bought some vintage postcards in a cool antiques and ephemera store with a great collection of glass bottles and jars:
Then headed further east to St. Augustine. As if I have not told you, it’s one of my all-time favorite cities in the world. Actually it IS my all-time favorite. I’ve been visiting there since childhood, but haven’t been in the last 5 years. It was like coming home. I’ll post photos tomorrow. For now, it’s bed time. Goodnight sweet readers!

  1. This looks so fun, Erin! I love that you guys chose a location that's off the beaten path. We always try to do that as well. I feel like such a slacker because I never sent you our list of Savannah favorites. Definitely check out The Paris Market. It's a darling store filled with pretty antiques and other goodies. There are a million good places to eat and museums to see, but don't miss Jim Williams' house and some of the Irish pubs. The house is truly incredible, and the area is known for it's St. Patty's Day celebration. If you make it to Hilton Head, there is a great J. Crew outlet there. I can't wait to see your photos! Savannah is one of our all-time favorites. I want to go back so badly!
